Staircase to Heaven

Saturday - St Paul's Cathedral

Well today we went to see St Paul's. After a bus ride in one of the double decker crazy buses, or maybe it's the drivers that are crazy, we arrived on the Southbank area of the River Thames. We had an interesting walk along the riverside. Poppa caught a guy grafitting a wall but then Jay told him it was a legal area that they allow people to do street art.

We also saw lots of old vehicles that were converted into Ice Cream Vans and food outlets. The tide was out on the river and there were some people building sandcastles in the sand on the rivers edge. As I sat on a fence watching the wind blew me onto the ground.

We then crossed the river to St Paul's. It looked impressive rising up above the buildings around it. As we approached the front of the church there were people all over the front steps. As we entered the sanctuary it was a buzz with tourists from everywhere. We wandered around looking at the designs and statutes, memorials and crypts. Some important people have been buried there.

We then went up to the dome viewing platform. The steps just went up and up and up and around and around and around....... Nana and Popp got a bit dizzy. The walls acted as a whispering wall and you could hear people on the far side if you whispered up against the wall. We then went out side to view the city and had to climb some more stairs up and up and up and around and around and around.......   I think there were some 670 steps in all. The views were good though.

After a rest we then descended and had some lunch in the cafeteria.

We then walked back past the riverside which was even more crowded than before. We passed the large ferris wheel but no one wanted to go on it. We then went on up to Waterloo Station to catch a bus home to Jay's.

A wonderful day and I hope not to see another staircase.
